The Real Estate Agents Authority CPD
"CPD" is the REA's preferred name for Continuing Education. CPD stands for Continued Professional Development
The REA is the licensing and disciplinary body for the real estate industry. It is an independent government agency that sits under the Ministry of Justice and relates to e-Agent NZ Ltd as a separate REA Approved Provider organisation. This approved status permits e-Agent to provide real estate licensees with annually required CPD (Continuing Professional Development) verified and non-verified training.
The Real Estate Authority requires all licenses salespeople and agents to complete twenty hours of CPD coursework, annually. This twenty hours is split between ten hours of "Mandatory" coursework and ten hours of non-verified coursework.
The mandatory, verified portion of the CPD (Continuing Education) is provided to e-Agent by the Real Estate Authority. As e-Agent published this material online upon course completion, an eBook version of the course content, is provided for the eLearner's use as a refresher.
Non-verified coursework is produced/provided by e-Agent. Each year the REA randomly audits a portion of the licensees, requiring the provision of completion certificates for these non-verified courses.
The primary function of the Real Estate Authority is to provide the New Zealand population with a balanced and professional marketplace. It operates under the 2008 Real Estate Agents Authority Act.
The REA produces the professional conduct and client care rules and administrates its functions through its real estate licensing and disciplinary operations. The REA also operates a Public Register of licensees. Information regarding the status and disciplinary history of every licensee, is available at the REA website
